A 5' x 90' pastel and charcoal drawing. Installed September 22nd - November 3rd, 2006 at the Salt Lake Art Council's Finch Lane Gallery
Dismembered November 4th, 2006
This drawing, whose overarching theme is the power, problematics and necessity of revisionism (a creative process of "strong misprision" in the terms of Harold Bloom) weaves mythologies (and their revisions) of the western world in a dense, layered web of color line and form. The drawing encompassed the West Gallery of Finch Lane Gallery. And out of the chaos of this tangled web of signs, patrons carved out their own sense. At the end of the exhibition, the drawing was dissected into the smaller units selected by patrons, creating works that might be as small as 1' and as long as 5'.
